The Premier League has one unique advantage over the other top-five leagues in Europe: The language.
English has essentially become the language of the world; therefore, pretty much all of the younger generation is learning it in school.
This allows English clubs to hire managers from all over the world with ease and without any trouble in terms of communication with their teams.
Many great international managers have graced the Premier League over the last couple of years, most notably Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta and JĂĽrgen Klopp.
After Klopp left Liverpool last summer, the club knew that finding a successor would be hard after the emotional tie between the German and the Kop.
The Reds opted for an international option again, hiring Dutchman Arne Slot as their new manager.
While Slot’s work at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord was great, he had never coached outside of his home country and had never managed a club as big as Liverpool before.
Still, Slot managed to get his team to a very high level of play from the start of the season, starting out strong and never letting up, ending with him winning the Premier League in his first season in the English top flight.
He’s now part of a very exclusive club with Antonio Conte, Manuel Pellegrini, Carlo Ancelotti, and José Mourinho as some of the managers to have achieved this feat.
We have already covered the tactics of Arne Slot in depth here at TFA over the duration of the season, so in this tactical analysis and team report, we will take a look at what made Liverpool so good this season and elevated them compared to the other top teams in the Premier League.
Barcelona remain one of only two teams, alongside Paris Saint-Germain, who can win their domestic league, domestic cup and the UEFA Champions League in 2024/2025.
Hansi Flick’s men successfully defeated their arch rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey Final on Saturday, with Jules Koundé securing the victory for Barça late on in the second half of extra time.
The Catalan giants have earned three wins from three games versus Los Blancos this season, having now defeated Carlo Ancelotti’s side 4-0 at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga, 5-2 in the Supercopa de España and now 3-2 in the Copa del Rey Final.
Indeed, looking at the scorelines, it would appear as though Madrid are getting closer to a positive result against their rivals, but that will be no consolation at all for a club as fixed on silverware as they are.
Earlier this year, when Barça thrashed Real Madrid away from home in the league, I wrote about their defensive tactics and the role they played in the Catalan side’s victory.
Today, it’s more about the attack, for us.
