Arsenal are presenting a serious candidacy to finally lift the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Mikel Arteta’s boys have got off to a convincing start by winning at Old Trafford against Manchester United and, in a totally different context, thrashing Daniel Farke’s Leeds United at home.
Maintaining their tendency to defend in a mid-block and favour transition contexts, Arsenal had to present a different game plan than the one used in Manchester.
Leeds, who had also beaten Everton on the opening matchday, seemed likely to sit deep in a low block and prevent quick offensive play, presenting a challenge for the Gunners in possession.
Far from shying away from the challenge, there are signs that Arteta has added a new twist to his game mode.
For many stretches last season, it felt insufficient and incomplete, falling short in terms of creativity and management against low blocks.
Even if still lacking that differential touch in a sense (I’m looking at you, Eberechi Eze), Arsenal showed that they remain ultra-competitive, with some of the identity traits they have retained, especially since the 2023/2024 season, when Arteta rethought his team.
In this tactical analysis article, we analyse some of the London team’s tendencies and behaviours, as well as their structures with the ball.
Como opened their 2025/2026 Serie A season with a very impressive win against a powerful Lazio, who were hoping to kick off their season with an away win.
However, things did not go their way as Como were more decisive and dangerous.
The 2-0 loss against Como represents a disappointing start to the season for I Biancocelesti, whose plan was to bounce back with powerful performances at the start of this season in the hope of achieving better results than the previous one, especially following the appointment of a veteran head coach like Maurizio Sarri.
On the other side, Cesc Fàbregas and his players are certainly proud of their very promising first game and first win against a tough opponent.
What is even more positive about Como’s win is that they won the match convincingly, with plenty of created chances, numerous shots on goal, and two beautiful goals, making their win even more pleasant for their fans.
That said, it will be completely right for Fàbregas to silence the ambitious hopes of the media to keep the players’ feet on the ground and continue working away from the lights, with the hope of achieving something important at the end of the season.
In this tactical analysis, I will be exploring Como’s rejuvenated attacking plans and how Fàbregas is using his new signings to make Como’s attacking performances more dangerous than last season.
The analysis will, therefore, shed light on the impact of the new players and how the setup this season seems to be working well for Como so far.
