Arsenal hosted Manchester City in matchweek 5 of the 2025/2026 Premier League season, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
This game saw a different Man City at the Emirates Stadium.
With just 33%, this was the lowest ball possession Pep Guardiola’s Man City have ever recorded in this fixture.
The visitors opened the scoring through a rapid counterattacking move after nine minutes, as Erling Haaland slotted it past David Raya with ease.
However, after a well-fought battle of over 90 minutes, the Gunners equalised through substitute Gabriel Martinelli in the third minute of injury time.
Although he would have wanted the three points, there are positives for Mikel Arteta from this contest.
Through this tactical analysis, we aim to find out what went wrong for Arsenal in the first half and how their personnel changes fixed the deficit in the second half, finally earning that well-deserved goal.
Kaine Kesler-Hayden is still only 22 years old and emerging as one of the EFL Championship’s most promising full-back and wing-back talents to watch this season.
A product of the Aston Villa Academy, Kesler-Hayden captained their U18 side to FA Youth Cup success in 2021 and has represented England at U20 level.
Early exposure to senior football came during his debut for Aston Villa in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool in January 2021, followed by multiple loan spells with Swindon Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, and Preston North End, gaining valuable first-team experience across League One and the Championship.
Kesler-Hayden’s journey through these clubs highlighted his adaptability, technical proficiency, and resilience, while his performances on loan earned him accolades such as Preston North End Fans’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
In July 2025, he secured a move to Coventry City in the Championship for a reported £3.5m, marking the next stage of his career.
Technically capable, tactically aware, and physically robust, Kesler-Hayden is comfortable operating as a right-sided full-back or wing-back, capable of contributing defensively while supporting attacks.
This scout report and player analysis will examine Kesler-Hayden’s style of play, tactical role at Coventry City, and the qualities that could help him succeed in the Championship, with the potential to reach Premier League levels in the future.
