Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield in gameweek 10 of the 2025/2026 Premier League season.

Both sides were level on 15 points entering the game.

However, their respective form this season has been a contrast.

The Reds opened the season with five consecutive wins and sat at the top of the table, but four recent defeats pushed them down to seventh place.

Meanwhile, the Villans began with three draws and two defeats, sitting 18th, before climbing steadily with four straight wins to reach eighth before this fixture.

These contrasting trajectories added intrigue to the contest.

Additionally, the tactical direction of both teams prompted further interest.

In possession, Aston Villa aim to build from deep, while out of possession, Liverpool look to press aggressively to regain the ball and generate turnovers that lead to shooting opportunities.

Their approach is reflected in the numbers:

Liverpool sit joint first with Manchester United for shots created from high pressing actions, with 53 attempts.

They’re also joint first with Nottingham Forest for shots produced from counterattacks, with 11.

These figures highlight Liverpool’s aggressive intent to convert ball recoveries into clear shooting chances.

This game followed a similar theme.

Facing a side capable of adapting during build-up against different pressing structures, Liverpool worked to find the most effective scheme to execute their high press and force turnovers that could create further shooting chances.

This tactical analysis looks at how Liverpool used their high pressing tactics to beat Aston Villa.

AC Milan beat AS Roma by a narrow margin in round 10 of the 2025/2026 Serie A.

The result saw I Rossoneri overtake I Giallorossi in the league table; both now have 21 points, with Milan ahead on goal difference.

Although Roma had the lion’s share of possession, they were only allowed a single big chance throughout 90 minutes; meanwhile, Milan had six big chances and dominated the game in transition.

Both sides showed intent to attack and defend with numbers.

Through this tactical analysis, we will examine how AC Milan kept AS Roma out and scored their winning goal.

The Bundesliga varies between having two or three promoted teams each year, with their relegation play-off; this season, only two teams managed to come up.

However, these two teams are very familiar faces, and this Sunday they matched up against each other.

The home team, 1. FC Köln got promoted back to the German top flight as the champions of the second division, just one year after getting relegated.

They had to hire a new manager before the season started and opted to go with Lukas Kwasniok, who had previously coached SC Paderborn.

Under Kwasniok, Köln’s start to the season was decent.

With 11 points out of the first eight games, Köln’s return to the Bundesliga has been a very pleasant one so far.

At the same time, Hamburger SV were promoted back to the Bundesliga after seven long years in the second division.

The club was the only German side never to be relegated from the top flight until 2018.

Then, they got stuck in the second division for quite some time.

Now, they are back in the big time after Merlin Polzin got his team promoted last season.

While the score of 4-1 in favour of Köln might sound like an easy game for them, the contest was way tighter than it seems.

So, in this tactical analysis, we will examine Kwasniok and Polzin’s tactics, how they prepared their respective teams for key moments in the match, and how Köln ultimately won the game decisively.
