Several top European clubs were said to be engaged in battle over the signature of Mahamadou Sangaré (177cm/5’10”) from Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of the summer.

Ultimately, it was Premier League giants Manchester City who emerged victorious, adding the 18-year-old forward to their youth ranks.

Sangaré was one of the stars of last season’s UEFA Youth League—Europe’s premier youth football competition at club level.

Then 17 years of age, left-footed Sangaré scored eight goals in just six games.

He ended the competition as joint-top goalscorer despite Les Parisiens failing to make it to the knockout stage.

The Mali-born France U18 international joined PSG from Montrouge in 2023 and spent two years developing in Les Parisiens’ youth academy.

Our Mahamadou Sangaré scout report and player analysis article sheds light on why this young forward was so in-demand at the start of this summer, beyond just highlighting the teenager’s goalscoring statistics.

We’ll go into detail on the key strengths and weaknesses of Sangaré’s game.

Based on our analysis, which we’ll expand upon in our piece, on top of his goalscoring threat, which is evidently strong, Sangaré’s a standout dribbler.

However, we find room for improvement in relation to playmaking that his new coaches at Man City can put their focus on helping the 18-year-old ready himself for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Sangaré is flexible and ready to be moulded into a certain ‘type’ of forward.

He could yet evolve into a centre-forward, where he’s mostly played thus far, or a wide forward.

You could also see his profile, which we’ll go into detail on below, fitting well into a fluid front three full of players rotating frequently with one another to constantly pose new challenges to the opposing defence.

From watching Sangaré, we can see shades of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi in his game, aided by his left-footedness, pace and dribbling quality.

A few days ago, we analysed the playing style of Renato Gaúcho’s Fluminense and Fluzão‘s remarkable performance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The team captured attention not just for reaching the semi-finals — eliminating Inter Milan and Al Hilal along the way — but for the way they played.

Fluminense’s football was different.

It felt improvised yet coordinated, chaotic yet ordered.

It didn’t rely on strict positional references but rather on fluid relationships between players.

This is the essence of relational football, a style that emphasises time over space, interdependence over role, and the emergence of structures from within the game itself.

We’re here to explain relational football, breaking it down so that people can better identify and understand it.

In this article, we explore two of the core dynamic structures that often appear in relational football: the escadinha and the corta-luz.

Though simple in form, they carry deep tactical and cultural meaning, not as planned routines, but as spontaneous responses born from mutual awareness and trust.
