Matheus Cunha was in the spotlight when he made his Atlético Madrid move for €35m in 2021.
He faced struggles with consistent form and minutes at the club, given their other attacking players and Simeone’s preference in playstyle.
He was due for a move where he could get consistent playing time and show who he really is.
On his loan to Wolves in 2022/23, he scored two EPL goals in 17 games and 972 minutes.
In 2023/24, he did much better, with 12 goals and seven assists in 32 games with 2454 minutes.
But this season is where he’s gotten more playing time and has been linked heavily with Arsenal.
He has 13 goals and four assists in 26 games so far, carrying Wolves’ attack.
The Brazilian talent factory is always producing and pumping out new players.
Cunha didn’t have the chance to show how great he was from the start, but at Wolves, he’s showing a spark of it.
However, it is doubtful that he will stay at Wolves for much longer.
It looks as though he’s eyeing a bigger move, possibly this summer.
His market value jumped from €20m in November 2022, when he was 23 years old and working at Atlético Madrid, to €50m as of December 2024.
However, he will certainly go for a fee ranging from €70m to €80m.

In the modern game, so many teams play with a midfield three.
Whilst working with a team for a season, we may well find ourselves focusing on big and slightly broad concepts, like “playing out from the back” or “finishing in the final third,” we can go a long time playing a midfield three and just expect these players to know what to do in the game due to their familiarity with a system.
This is obviously not ideal practice – and perhaps reading this, this doesn’t apply to you – but if it does or it doesn’t, it is still important we work on something that often underpins our entire system in possession.
The midfield three and their understanding of working together are vitally important, and this set of practices, which would come together as one session, offers some examples of how we can do exactly this.
Whether we use tactics that require us to play with a double or single pivot, two 8s, two 10s, or a conventional 6, 8, and 10, we have to ensure these players not only understand their individual roles but, more importantly, are cohesive as a unit.
This tactical analysis will provide some examples of coaching a midfield three to rotate consistently, change angle and position, and structure forward play.
