The opening weeks of the 2025/2026 Premier League season have showcased the growing influence of African players across the division.

From clinical forwards to dynamic wide attackers and progressive full-backs, many sides have benefited from standout performances delivered by their African contingents.

This rising prominence, however, comes with an inevitable challenge: the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to deprive several Premier League clubs of key personnel at a crucial stage of the campaign.

Sunderland, enjoying an unexpected surge into fourth place, face an even greater numerical setback as they prepare to lose a large group of players to international duty.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are bracing for the absence of Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui, and the in-form Bryan Mbeumo under Rúben Amorim.

Beyond these sides, several other Premier League clubs will also be affected by the loss of influential African players who have been central to their early-season performances, adding further complexity to an already demanding period.

In this data analysis, we examine how the absence of these players may influence their teams’ performance, using detailed match data and statistical trends to assess the true cost of their upcoming AFCON 2025 commitments.

Scotland faced Denmark at Hampden Park in Glasgow and wrote history, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 28 years following a dramatic 4-2 win.

It was a match full of emotion as both teams battled until the end, each scoring to extend their lead, but Scotland were more eager to win, even though Denmark had the ball more often.

It is true that the red card conditioned Denmark’s performance as well, but more importantly, Scotland were more intelligent and more decisive in scoring the few chances they created.

They exploited Denmark’s defensive weaknesses and moments of doubt exceptionally, scoring their four goals, including two that came after Denmark’s second equaliser in the 82nd minute.

For Denmark, the team will have to play the tiring, complicated play-off phase to try to secure a World Cup qualification ticket, which is becoming much more difficult to obtain through the play-offs.

Denmark were punished especially for missing numerous chances and failing to finish the game when they had the chance.

In this tactical analysis article, we will focus on Scotland’s performance and how they succeeded in countering Denmark’s attacks with realistic attacking solutions, such as Scott McTominay’s finishing and second-ball play.

The analysis will also shed light on Scotland’s defensive errors and how they can improve their defensive performances in the upcoming games.
