It has been quite a summer at Tottenham Hotspur.

The departure of Ange Postecoglou brought mixed emotions.

Optimism returned when Thomas Frank and his staff arrived with a new profiling of players and a different style.

The results on the pitch have been encouraging.

The transfer window has been less straightforward.

Expectations of a busy market after the arrival of Mohammed Kudus soon gave way to frustration.

Morgan Gibbs-White chose to stay at Nottingham Forest with a new contract.

Eberechi Eze, who at one stage appeared close to joining, made a late U-turn that allowed Arsenal to move in.

The pattern of Spurs‘ targets suggests the club has been searching for another central ball carrier.

They want a player who can work in tight spaces, drive forward and hurt opponents through direct runs.

But this raises questions of balance.

Spurs already have several strong carriers in Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, the injured James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr.

What they lack is a pass-first profile in midfield (further forward).

They need someone to connect phases of play, but ideally in the final third.

This piece will propose two alternative profiles.

These players can carry the ball when required, but prefer to pass.

The recruitment analysis will look at their ability to play in central midfield, especially on the right side, or as a ten.

It will also weigh the wider pros and cons of building around ball carriers compared with pass-first players.

Leon Bailey is set to become the first Jamaican footballer to play for AS Roma following his recent loan move to I Giallorossi, as Aston Villa have agreed a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

This loan deal follows other significant signings for Roma to reinforce their squad, such as Wesley França from Flamengo, Daniele Ghilardi from Hellas Verona, Evan Ferguson from Brighton & Hove Albion, and Neil El Aynaou from RC Lens.

Along with their current players, these reinforcements can be considered very promising so far as Roma strive to be as competitive as possible in Serie A this season.

Ensuring consistency in results and continuity in the coaching staff will definitely help Roma have a much better first half of the season.

If Roma succeed in reaching this objective, they will surely be in a much better place by mid-season than last term, and that would help them finish the last decisive part of the season well, knowing that the initial part of last season was the reason why they failed to challenge for the top three spots in 2024/2025.

Claudio Ranieri‘s splendid work in regrouping the team and putting them on track made things much more positive, and that’s what allowed them to even challenge for a UEFA Champions League spot during the last fixtures.

This season, however, Roma appear to be much more prepared to start the season as well as possible.

The loan deal of an experienced and confirmed player like Bailey can only add more quality and expertise to an already up-and-coming squad.

New manager Gian Piero Gasperini will then have to find the best possible lineup, benefit from his players’ abilities, and exploit their full potential.

He has already proven that he is one of the best in the world at improving his players’ performances and making them shine according to his specific playing system.

This Leon Bailey player analysis and scout report will mainly explore Bailey’s abilities on the wing, his possible other positions, and how he will fit into Gian Piero Gasperini tactics.

The analysis will also examine Leon Bailey’s weaknesses and areas for improvement to determine how Gasperini can make him a more complete player and benefit from his development.

If Gasperini succeeds in making Leon Bailey more powerful and complete as a winger with convincing performances at Roma this season, I Giallorossi should do their best to activate their option to buy him at the end of the season.
